Bertha Heard

Bertha Mae Heard "The Rock" was born in Lavonia, Ga. on August 4, 1922 to the late Sylvester and Octavia Johnson and was the last survivor of six siblings born to this union. Bertha joined the Calvary Baptist Church at an early age and was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on November 9, 2019. Bertha always had the house in the neighborhood that all the kids somehow seemed to gravitate to. She loved her children dearly, as she did all children, and taught her kids the value of family, love, and respect for everyone.
She was married to the late Joe Frank Heard and to this union eight children were born. William Heard, Sr. and Harold Lamar Heard preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was one granddaughter Patricia A. Johnson. She leaves to cherish her loving memories six children, Rosa L. Johnson of Greenville, S.C., Joe R. Johnson of Landover, Md., Robert L. Heard of Hartwell, Ga., Sammy Heard of Hartwell, Jerry Heard (Bernadette) of Dacula, Ga., and Larry Heard of Hartwell. She also leaves to cherish her memories 26 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, and 22 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
