Barry Joe Ginn, age 62, loving husband, father, and "Pop", went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at Piedmont Athens Regional. Barry was born on December 21, 1957 to the late James Warren Ginn, Sr. and Sara Rachel Beck Ginn. He grew up in Hart county. Barry had a heart of gold, loved to make people laugh and could tell a story like no other.
Barry worked as an insurance agent with Independent Life for over 20 years, following his job as an insurance agent, he worked as a carpenter and mechanic. Barry was an active member of the Nancy Hart Masonic Lodge #690 and received the Trestle Board Award on December 19, 2019. He was currently serving as the treasurer of the lodge and was a Past Master serving in 2010. He was also a member of the Yaarab Temple Scottish Rite. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. He enjoyed many things, but had a love for crappie fishing, deer hunting, cooking, working as a mechanic and wood-working.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 41 years, Sheila Hembree Ginn; daughters, Lindsey Ginn Williams and her husband Kristopher Williams of Elberton and Sasha Elizabeth Ginn of Hartwell; son, Elijah Joe Ginn of the home; six grandchildren: Logan Williams, Bentley Ginn, Hayden Williams, Lawson Ginn, Rhett Williams and Maddie Williams.
He is also survived by his siblings: Warren (Paula) Ginn of Greensboro, N.C., Melinda (Wayne) Mewborn of Royston, Karen (Andy) Almond of Royston, and Dr. Neal (Teresa) Ginn of Augusta, Ga. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews including Matt Mewborn, Greta Meads and her children MacKenzie and Mason; Justin (Beth) Mewborn and their daughter Olivia; Jared (Hope) Ginn and their daughter Emmy; Ryan (Mandy) Mewborn and their daughter Kathleen; Jamie (Johnathan) Harris and their children Dash, Ryker and Mickey; Zack (Lauren) Almond, Sara Ginn, Lauren Ginn, Luke Almond, Jake Ginn and Natalie Ginn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Warren Ginn, Sr. and Sara Rachel Beck Ginn and by his grandparents Lucius (Luke) and Lucille Ginn and James (Jim) and Lula Beck.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, from the chapel of the Coile and Hall Funeral Directors with the Rev. Tommy Cleveland, Rev. Terry Meeks and Rev. Kevin Vaughn officiating. At his request, cremation followed the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family of Barry J. Ginn to help with cost of medical and funeral expenses. Online giving has been set up by Oak Bower Baptist Church in Hartwell.
