James Benson Saylors, 79, of the Mt. Olivet Community, Hartwell, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2019 at Regency Hospital, Greenville, S.C.
Born on December 20, 1939 in Hartwell, he was the son of the late John Thomas Saylors Sr. and Mamie Lacie Phillips Saylors. Benson was retired from the Milliken / Newton Plant where he was a machine technician. He was a lifelong member of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church where he was a former deacon, Sunday School teacher, and sang in the choir. Benson was also a member of the Nancy Hart Lodge #690 for 58 years. He also was a member of the Hart County Camp of Gideons International, where he served as chaplain, and served on the Board of Directors of the Hart County Farm Bureau. Benson was an avid gardener.
Benson is survived by his wife, Nancy Faye Marett Saylors; two daughters: Tracie Poole (Tom) of Cornelia and Beth Lail (Shoan) of Hendersonville, N.C.; one son, Glen Saylors (Phoebe) of Jacksonville, Fla.; one sister, Frances Bailey of Hartwell and six grandchildren: Austin and Tanner Poole, Jansen and Shannon Lail and Aubrey and Riley Saylors. Mr. Saylors was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Floyd Saylors, Guy Saylors and Thomas Saylors; and one sister, Mary Sue Shivers. 
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, October 2, at the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church with the Rev. Jason Webb and Rev. Caleb Bond officiating. Burial was in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.
