February will offer many opportunities for locals to take part in community events. Whether it is a regional chili cook off or a parade to celebrate black history month, options abound this coming month.
The Harmony House Child Advocacy Center 7th Annual Chili Cook-Off will be from 4-6 p.m. on Feb. 8 at the Elberton Civic Center.
The event will benefit the victims of child abuse and sexual assault in the Northern Judicial Circuit.
Tickets to the cook-off are $5 for adults, $2.50 for children 6-12 and free for children under 5 years old. Admission tickets include a sample taste of each chili entry, sweet tea and one cake walk.
The chili entry fee is $25 for the first entry and $15 for each additional entry. The cake walks are $1 per walk. Bowls of chili are also $1 each.

The Hart County Chapter NAACP will host its annual History Unites Us Parade at 3 p.m. on Feb. 16.  The parade will run from Franklin Street to Richardson Street in Hartwell.
The fee for parade participants is $15. Contact the Rev. Lonnie Robinson at 706-376-1584 for more information about being a participant.
The 11th Annual Hart County Imagination Library Low Country Boil Fundraiser will be at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 21 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Fellowship Hall in Hartwell.
Raffles and silent auctions will be held to raise money for the program that is administered by Hart Partners.
Tickets are $20 each for dine-in or take-out and are available at Hart Partners/CIS of Hart County at 110 Benson St., Hart County Chamber of Commerce, CAT Members or call Hart Partners at 706-376-7449.
The Sacred Heart Catholic Church is located at 1009 Benson St. in Hartwell.
The Northeast Georgia Council on Domestic Violence will round out the month by hosting the 24th annual Polar Bear Plunge and Festival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 29 at the Hartwell Marina.
The event will include a chili cook-off, cake walk, face painting and more.
Registration for jumping is from 11 a.m. to noon.
