More virus cases, deaths accumulate in Hart

Deaths from COVID-19 continue to rise in Hart County, a public health report shows, as the number of cumulative infections surpassed 300 in the county this past week.

Seven deaths in Hart County are reportedly related to the novel coronavirus, according to Tuesday’s daily status report from the Department of Public Health.

Three of those deaths were individuals 90 years old or older, with one having comorbidity, or other factors contributing to their death. Another death was an 81-year-old man with comorbidity.

A 66-year-old male who died had comorbidity, the DPH reports, while a 78-year-old female who died from the virus did not have comorbidity.

A 62-year-old male who died from the virus did not have comorbidity issues.

Hart County has seen a total of 325 confirmed cases as of Wednesday, 47 hospitalizations and seven deaths from the virus since the DPH began tracking the information.

There are 29 active cases in the county as of Wednesday, county administrator and emergency management director Terrell Partain said.

The county has seen 90 of its confirmed cases added in the past two weeks, the DPH reports.

No new nursing home deaths in Hart County were reported this week from the Department of Community Health.

Twelve of the 46 positive cases in residents at Hart Care Center have recovered while three have died, according to the Department of Community Health’s Tuesday report.

Numbers at Brookdale Assisted Living seem to have tabled off as well. Five of the 12 positive residents have died and no recoveries have been reported, but the number of new cases has stagnated.

At Hartwell Health and Rehaibilitation, 10 of the 12 positive residents have recovered.

The number of available critical care beds in hospitals in Hart County’s region grew to 10 as of Tuesday, an increase from just one bed available on Aug. 4, the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) reports.

Statewide, there are 4,351 deaths, 222,588 confirmed cases, 21,031 hospitalizations and 3,832 ICU admissions related to the virus as of Tuesday. About 84 percent of critical care beds statewide are in use, according to GEMA.
