A dozen Hart County students representing all five county schools have been named as Young Georgia Authors in the statewide competition for the fiscal year 2020. Sponsored by the Georgia Language Arts Supervisors (GLAS) and the Georgia Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA) network with support from the Georgia Department of Education, the purpose of the Young Georgia Authors (YGA) writing competition is to encourage students to develop enthusiasm for and expertise in writing, to provide a context to celebrate writing successes and to recognize student achievement in arts and academics.
“The competition is an excellent way to showcase students’ independent writing skills,” said Jennifer Carter, Associate Superintendent for Hart County schools. “Work samples often represent years of effective classroom instruction. Therefore, each winning piece is truly celebrated by multiple teachers.”
For more than two decades, this competition has been open to any student enrolled in Georgia public schools. Winners will now go on to compete at the regional level.
