Royston man pleads guilty to assault

A man convicted of plowing through a road block in an SUV while intoxicated was sentenced to serve 24 hours in confinement.

Joshua Eugene Alexander, 38, of Royston, pled guilty  to aggravated assault, DUI, possession of methamphetamine, obstruction of law enforcement and driving on a suspended license. Alexander was sentenced in Hart County Superior Court on Dec. 5 to serve a total of five years with 24 hours in confinement and the rest on probation.

Georgia State Patrol troopers and Hart County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Alexander around 1:50 a.m. on Aug. 18, 2019, after he reportedly drove through a road check law enforcement set up on Ga. Highway 17 Royston Bypass and then led authorities on a high-speed chase.
