Mountain Education Franklin Campus announced that Lydia Bennett has been approved to serve as co-principal, effective July 2026.
She will join Andrew Fowler in leading the Franklin campus and supporting the school’s mission of providing life-changing educational opportunities for students.
Bennett brings decades of experience in education and educational leadership, along with a passion for helping students succeed in environments designed to meet their individual needs.
She has an extensive background in special education, alternative education, school administration and district leadership.
Bennett serves as the assistant superintendent for the Hart County Charter System.
She began her career in education in Stephens County as a special education teacher before being appointed Director of Alpine, now known as Futures/GNETS.
During her seven years in that leadership role, she worked with at-risk students who were not thriving in traditional school settings, developing a deep commitment to alternative education and student advocacy.
Following her time at Alpine, Bennett returned to the classroom in Hart County as a special education teacher.
She later transitioned into administration, serving as an assistant principal before becoming a principal, a position she held for 10 years.
As she prepares to join Mountain Education Franklin Campus, Bennett said she is especially excited to continue serving at-risk students and believes every learner can achieve success when provided with the right environment, meaningful relationships and clear goals.
Her connection to Mountain Education is also personal.
Having experienced the program through her daughter’s graduation from Mountain Education, Bennett has witnessed firsthand the organization’s impact on students and families.
“We are thrilled to welcome Mrs. Bennett to the Franklin Mountain Education family,” Fowler said. “Her experience, leadership and unwavering belief in students make her an exceptional fit for our campus. We look forward to the positive impact she will have on our students, staff and community.”
The Mountain Education Franklin Campus is located on the campus of Emmanuel University in Franklin Springs.
