Hartwell City Council members (from left) Dan Leard, Tony Haynie and Mayor Brandon Johnson take a first look at the proposed MLK mural to go downtown off Franklin Street. The council decided to approve funding for a mural, but asked for changes to be made to the original proposed design and would require council approval of the design before moving forward.
The approved mural is set to be painted on the wall of the MLK Parking lot, a city owned lot next to the post office. The mural will be completed as a part of the University of Georgia’s Color the World Bright project. The parking lot currently features a marker honoring Martin Luther King Jr.
