The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was investigating a Monday morning Hartwell shooting in which two men were killed by press time Wednesday. The shooting, which took place outside Jack’s Bar and Grill, a late night establishment off W Franklin Street, left at least three people shot according to the GBI.
The GBI said in a statement that Hartwell Police responded to the incident at about 2:15 a.m. before turning the investigation over to the state agency. The GBI said by Tuesday, suspects had not been identified.
Mike Adams, Hart County Coroner, said Roberius Thornton of Hartwell, 29, was pronounced dead at the scene. Joseph Johnson of Canon, 25, succumbed to injuries Monday afternoon while hospitalized, Adams said.
The GBI release said two other victims were hospitalized, including one who went to the hospital on their own and has since been treated and released.
“Several vehicles were hit by the multiple rounds fired,” the statement said. “No suspects have been identified yet.”
The investigation is active and ongoing, according to the GBI.
