Swimmer takes reigns as coach to keep program alive

When rising senior Savannah Stanish heard the YMCA swim coach was not returning this year, she stepped up to keep the program going.

“I knew that our coach was leaving and the swim team meant so much to me. I wanted it to keep going,” Stanish said. “I came and talked to the manager here and I was like, ‘Hey, if there’s no one that steps up, I can do it.’”

Stanish has swam competitively for 10 years and gone to multiple swim meets, including state competitions, as a swimmer. This summer, she saw what it was like from the side of the pool, helping her younger teammates.
