Nestlé-Purina’s production facility in Hartwell is up and running, complete with a staff of hardworking people and robots.
The more than 600,000 square-foot factory opened its state-of-the-art cat food production plant on Monday with the help of a scruffy-faced dog named Mac. Instead of cutting the ceremonial ribbon, he pulled it, Purina style.
The plant will bring more than 240 jobs to Hart County once it is fully staffed. Much of the staff will operate automated machines that handle much of the hard labor. The jobs of workers have shifted from repetitive, manual labor to overseeing and operating the machinery that does dirty work, Purina officials said.
