Program aids needy, elderly in paying winter heating bills

A program to help elderly and low-income folks pay for their winter heating bills will get a boost from hot dogs on Oct. 11.
The Hartwell Gas Department is hosting a hot dog lunch that day, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Tickets are $7 each and include two hotdogs, chips, cole slaw, a cookie and a drink. Lunches will be picked up in the city parking lot beside the fire department on Howell Street in downtown Hartwell.
There is also a chance to win a Mossberg pump shotgun or $200 in cash through a raffle. Tickets can be purchased at City Hall or from any city employee. The drawing will be during the hot dog lunch on Oct. 11.
All proceeds from the fundraisers will benefit the HEAT program, which will aids local elderly and low-income residents pay their for heating their homes during the cold, winter months.
