A delivery driver knocked over a power pole Tuesday on Fifth Street in Hartwell, which led to a fire that delayed pickup at Hart County Middle and High School for some parents and buses.

Firefighters stood by near the entrance to Bobby Pate Field House from roughly 2:30-3 p.m. and monitored the blaze while Hartwell Police officers blocked the street until Georgia Power could turn off the electricity to the pole. Once the power was off, firefighters extinguished the fire.

The incident knocked power out to Hart County Middle School and made power blink at other locations in the area.

No other information was immediately available.
