Weekend concert to benefit Hart Humane Society

The sound of Nashville will ring throughout Hartwell Sept. 22 as the Sacred Heart Catholic Church will host a Country Music Review to benefit the Hart County Humane Society.

Headlining the event is Georgia musician Steve Kelly from Flowery Branch. Aside from being an accomplished musician that travels all across the country, according to Hart Humane’s fundraising committee chair Marilyn Bowman, Kelly is also an animal lover.

“Steve is a high energy entertainer and totally committed to saving the animals,” Bowman said.

Bowman said she met Kelly at a concert in Toccoa and asked him if he would mind doing something for Hartwell.

“He gets it and understands where we are coming from because he’s an animal lover, and donates his time to help as much as he can,” Bowman said.

Aside from Kelly’s performance which begins at 7 p.m., the event will feature a silent auction, a 50/50 raffle, donations for beer and wine, as well as a meal from the The Farmers Daughter.

“The doors open at 6 p.m., and you can order your meal ahead of time, walk through the auction and hear some great country music,” Bowman said.

Bowman explained the Humane Society puts on four events a year to raise money for the “no kill” organization that saves animals across Northeast Georgia.

“The money we make barely pays the vet bills,” Bowman said. “We rely heavily on donations and grants. The cost of maintaining the animals are astronomical because we spay/neuter and microchip each animal that comes through the door.”

In addition to donations, Bowman says the Humane Society is in desperate need of volunteers.

“Anyone that can volunteer to help walk dogs, help clean, anything they can do help for us

harthumane.org, or our Facebook page,” Bowman said.

Bowman said she hopes the community comes out to hear some great music for a great cause.

“It’s going to be a great concert and for only $25 dollars a person, the community will not be disappointed,” Bowman said. “It’s a very inexpensive night out.”
