This year The Sun will bring back its Mother-of-the-Year contest, its annual tradition from 1966 to 2003.

Individuals who wish to nominate their mother or a mother figure in their lives should submit letters to The Sun on why that candidate deserves to be Mother-of-the-Year. Anyone may submit a nomination, regardless of whether or not they live in Hart County.

The winner will be a Hart County woman who epitomizes motherhood (whether a mother, adoptive mother, foster mother, mother-in-law, or simply a mother figure in general) through her conduct and care for others.

Submissions should be no longer than 500 words long, and writers are asked to leave their name and contact information (and that of their nominee), in order for staff to contact them should their nominee win the contest. Nominations will close on Friday, April 26 at 5 p.m.

One winner will be selected by The Sun’s staff, and announced on May 9. The winner will be notified prior to May 9 and will receive a bouquet of flowers, a gift certificate, and will have their portrait taken by a local photography studio, Stephanie Crump Studios. The winning submission, along with the photo, will be printed that day.

Nominations can be sent by email to editor@thehartwellsun.com, or brought to the office or mailed to it at 8 Benson Street, Hartwell, GA 30643.
