On September 21, the Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) closed access to State Route 77 Spur at the Little Coldwater Creek bridge in Hart County, approximately 6.5 miles southeast of Hartwell.

Georgia DOT states the road closure should be in place for about 150 days, weather permitting, while contractors from Georgia Bridge & Concrete work to the repair the bridge at Little Cold Water Creek.

A temporary detour will be in place throughout the course of construction.

The off site detour for the road will route traffic from State Route 77 Spur onto Elberton Highway, State Route 8 and State Route 181. Signage has been put in place throughout the entire stretch of the 22.2 mile detour.

Georgia DOT reports that all local emergency agencies as well as Hart County Schools have been notified of the detour by the contractor. The exact dates of construction may change due to weather or other factors.

Georgia DOT cautions motorists to reduce their speed while traveling through work zones, stay alert, and watch for workers in construction zones. Motorists can receive real-time traffic information on work status and conditions by calling 511, visiting 511ga.org, or by downloading the Georgia 511 app.
