Hartwell resident Lakeisha McLendon, 37, was arrested last week and charged with the murder of Matthew Boyd, 43, according to Walhalla (South Carolina) Police Chief Tim Rice.

McLendon was booked at the Oconee County Detention Center on Oct. 19 and is being held without bond.

Oconee County Coroner Karl E Addis said last week that Boyd was murdered at his house at 207 Moore Avenue in Walhalla, with the cause of death ruled a stabbing. Emergency services first received a 911 call around 10 p.m. in regards to the incident.

“He was stabbed in the chest as confirmed by an autopsy,” Rice said Tuesday. “We executed a search warrant in the city of Hartwell and the same day [of the search] she was arrested for some physical evidence related to the case.

“We did recover one of several items there and they were brought back here to the police department where they were secured to be transported to a [South Carolina Law Enforcement Division] lab for further analysis.”

Rice said Boyd and McLendon were “girlfriend and boyfriend” and the incident is considered to be isolated.

No court dates have been set for McLendon.
