Corinna Crumpton, a Hart County High School teacher accused of two charges related to sexual correspondence with a student, was granted $20,000 bail by Hart County Superior Court Judge R. Chris Phelps on Friday, Jan. 7.

During a bond hearing that lasted about 30 minutes, Crumpton’s attorney stated that she was arrested by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation while enrolled in a Mount Sinai Health System rehabilitation course in Dahlonega.

Crumpton’s mother, who indicated she would be posting bail, said Crumpton checked herself into the program for substance abuse rehabilitation and grief counseling and had been enrolled for two days before her arrest.

The GBI charged Crumpton, 30, on Jan. 4 on one count of sexual assault and one count of electronically furnishing obscene materials to a minor.

Documents from the bond hearing state the charges as “electronically furnishing obscene material to minors” and “improper sexual contact with a minor by a person in a position of trust in the first degree.”

In Georgia, the former charge is a misdemeanor of a high and aggravated nature and the latter is a felony.

As a condition of Crumpton’s bond, she was ordered upon posting to be transported directly, “door-to-door,” from the Hart County Detention Center back to the Mount Sinai rehabilitation facility. She has been instructed by the court to finish the 30-day program.

Crumpton, who taught German at Hart County High, was ordered to surrender her passport as a dual citizen of Germany. She also surrendered her Fourth Amendment rights, allowing for search and seizure at any time and random alcohol and drug testing.

Other bond conditions included: no contact with the victim, their family or any current students at the high school; no leaving the state of Georgia; banishment from the Northern Judicial Counties (Hart, Franklin, Madison, Elbert and Oglethorpe) except for medical and legal purposes; and no contact with any child under the age of 18 other than her children under circumstances where she is not supervised by a responsible adult.

There is no date currently set for her next proceeding.
