Keeping the lake clean with the scarecrows

Hartwell Main Street

Downtown Hartwell is once again getting into the spirit of the season with the return of Hartwell Main Street’s “Scarecrows on the Square” contest!

Visitors can now stroll through the square and enjoy dozens of creative, whimsical and sometimes downright spooky scarecrow displays crafted by local businesses, organizations and families.

This year’s competition is sponsored by Southern Hart Brewing Co. and the Lake Hartwell Association, and community members are invited to help choose the winners.

Voting runs Oct. 1–29, and ballots can be dropped off anytime in the mailbox in front of Southern Hart Brewing Co. The ballot can be found on page 2 in this week’s edition of The Hartwell Sun.

Prizes will be awarded in four categories: First place – $300; Second place – $200; Third place – $100; and People’s Choice – $100.

Winners will be announced at the Mayor’s Monster Mash on Oct. 29, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Railroad Street.
