Nelson O'Neal Blackwell Sr.
Nelson O'Neal Blackwell Sr. was born January 1, 1956 in Hartwell, Georgia to John Blackwell Jr. and Minnie Rucker Blackwell. The angel of Mercy ushered him into eternal rest on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, S.C.
Nelson Sr. graduated from HCHS class of 1974. He was a faithful member of Trinity Outreach Baptist Church in Hartwell. He was Trinity Church music ministry keyboard player, overseen maintenance, hospitality and always ready to assist in any way that was needed. Nelson was employed at Fiber Glass for 20-plus years and a CDL truck driver for Superior Plus Transport before retiring. Nelson loved God, his family and community. He was known as Chief to his family and friends and papa to his grandchildren. He was the oldest of eight children. He spent his life making a difference in others with wisdom, joy and loved to put a smile on the face of anyone he met. He did this even when it wasn't comfortable for him. He wanted his family to know he wasn't giving up and that he loved them but going to hospice is something that he needed to do. Nelson was a loving son, father, brother and friend to anyone who needed one. We love you so much and your love will always linger in our hearts.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Blackwell Jr., son, Shapoylie McCurley; and brother-in-law, Bryant Keith Hill.
He leaves to cherish loving memories his loving mother, Minnie R. Blackwell; son, Nelson Blackwell Jr.; two daughters: Lamika Blackwell and Lakuya Blackwell; siblings: James Blackwell, Freddie (Sherry) Blackwell, Deborah Blackwell, Michelle Blackwell, Anthony (Doris) Blackwell, Judy (Leroy) Reed, Tracy Hill; six grandchildren: Rasheed (aka DJ), Shaniya, Cash, Kassidy, Khloe and Nicole, an unconditional love for his former spouse, friend and Pastor, Gail Blackwell, Mama Sal Stowers and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family of Nelson O'Neal Blackwell Sr. wishes to express their sincere appreciation for all the warm acts of kindness, love and concern extended during our time of sorrow. Special thanks to AnMed Hospital, AnMed Health Cancer Center and Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, S.C. for their kindness and care of our beloved one. May God bless each of you and your family.
