Sept. 22, 1999 — At the beginning of what would be the Bulldogs best season on record, the Hart County High School football team defeated Elbert County 7-3 after previously beating Washington-Wilkes 19-14.
The rivalry game against the Blue Devils was as strong as it is today, with crowd estimates of 7,500 in attendance.
The Bulldogs would go on to have an undefeated regular season and advance to the state championship game, marking the best single-season record in HCHS history.
Cartersville edged the Bulldogs in that state title game, though, 27-21, which was played at Cartersville. The semi-finals were played in the Georgia Dome.

Sept. 19, 1877 — Things were changing in Georgia. A report in The Sun titled “On Tick” noted in the language of the time: “After the first Wednesday in December next, the credit system will be dead in Georgia. Up to that time, the old homestead stands, and when a man dies under that his property that is left is subject to his debts, and creditors, although they may have to wait for a long time, will get it in the end. Under the new one debtors can swindle those they owe world without end. But it will work out all right. Nothing else would ever have destroyed the credit system, and a man that credits after the new homestead is adopted, ought to and will lose, as honesty has long since taken its flight from the great Empire State of the South.”
The state had also adopted a new constitution, which The Sun considered distributing to its readers and also printing. “We would print it in our paper if we did not believe that our subscribers would prefer not to have it to the exclusing of other matter.”
The editors also promised a larger newspaper coming soon.
“... our patrons may be assured of a larger paper soon, as we have already ordered press and material,” the editors wrote.
