The whitetail deer population in Hart County is on the rise, in part due to the work of local game wardens, who do much more than just checking permits and licenses.
By catching hunters harvesting animals over the allowed limit, and spotting various other wildlife encroachments, Georgia Department of Natural Resources Game Wardens in Hart County have been protecting wildlife in the area they both call home for more than a decade.
Cpl. Craig Fulghum has served since 2004 as one of two game wardens in Hart County. Fulghum, originally from Royston, said protecting the land and wildlife in his home area gives added meaning for him and his co-worker. Game Warden Brandon Pierce, a Hart County native, has been working as a game warden in the county for 12 years now. Both have dealt with cases ranging from illegal bow fishing to having someone wanted by law enforcement swim around in the lake for three hours.
