Work on Depot Street was well underway on Tuesday.
If you can’t already tell by the street closures, the heavy machinery or the layer of red Georgia dirt, Depot Street’s long-awaited facelift is quite obviously in full swing in downtown Hartwell.
The Hartwell City Council warned months ago that the extensive revitalization project would cause some aggravation for business owners and residents in and around the work zone. Since work began in late May, many people can probably attest to that, but it seems like most folks still agree the project is a vital one for the betterment of the community.
City manager Jon Herschell offered an update on the ongoing labor and, though it appears to be a bit of a mess right now, confirmed everything is moving right along on schedule.
