Patsy Carter
Patsy Ann Brown Carter, of Baton Rouge, La., passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 16, 2021, in Norcross, Ga. Born September 1, 1935, in Hartwell, Ga., she was a graduate of Hart County High School. Following employment for several years with the American Soil Conservation Society-Hart County office in the late 1950's, Pat took time to raise her children before returning to the workforce as the office manager for Highland Road Small Animal Hospital working from 1976 until her retirement.
Passionate about her faith, she was a 54-year active member of St. John's United Methodist Church, a member of the Founder's Class and a member of the United Methodist Women (UMW). Pat served in many roles at St. John's on the Administrative Board, Council on Ministries and as UMW President. She was also an active member and supporter of the LSU Campus Club, serving two terms as Campus Club President, and a member of the LSU Retirees Club. Pat loved to travel, cook and was an avid fan of LSU football, basketball and baseball. She also loved to play bridge, having been a member of the "Every Other Wednesday Bridge Group" for more than 50 years. Pat was the kind of friend that was irreplaceable. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchilden fervently and fiercely.
At 86, Pat was the center of our family and taught all of her children and grandchildren that family is to be treasured, loyalty is paramount and faith will guide you through the tough times. She believed in us, and because of that, we believed in ourselves. Together with our father, her husband of 66 years who passed away in 2019, we learned the dignity of hard work and that you become defined by your sense of honor and word. Her strength, which was immeasurable, will live on in all of us.
Preceded in death by her loving husband Cade Edward Carter, Sr.; her parents, Martin and Sabria Brown; one brother, Harold Brown, and one sister, Jean Ankerich. She is survived by her two children and their spouses: Cade Edward Carter, Jr. (Erin), of Baton Rouge, La.; and her daughter, Kimberly Carter Bernard (Mike), of Norcross, Ga.; grandchildren: Cade Carter of Baton Rouge and Sarah Eichelberger (husband, Kerry) of Baton Rouge; Brittney Bernard of Lilburn, Ga.; Austin Bernard (wife, Courtney), of Snellville, Ga.; and Mason Bernard of Norcross; two great-grandchildren: James Carter Eichelberger and Kennedy Lorraine Bernard; and one brother, Homer Brown of Elberton, Ga. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and special friends, all whom she treasured.
Special thanks to her physicians, Dr. Harold Brandt, and Dr. J. Carter Balart, both of Baton Rouge.
