Dick Lee Lanford passed peacefully on October 17, 2019 at the age of 79.
Dick is survived by his wife Becky of 57 years; sons Mark (Lori), Craig (Barb), Eric; grandkids Trevor, Zach, Madison; sister Jane (Bob) and brother Bob (Julie). He was  preceded in death by his father Carl Mason Lanford and mother Mae Lynn Lanford.
Dick was born on December 20, 1939 in Greer, S.C. He (was the first in his family to graduate from a four-year college) graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in accounting and married his high school sweetheart Becky in 1962. Dick first attended North Greenville College where he played All American baseball and basketball. After accepting a position with Southern Railway in 1964, he moved to Atlanta and had a very successful career spanning 35 years. 
He and Becky also welcomed three boys which they raised in a loving home.
After he retired, Dick spent time volunteering with the AARP as a tax preparer, helping working people and retirees prepare and plan financially. He was also a skilled angler, spending many afternoons reeling in striped and hybrid bass. He also enjoyed playing golf with his friends.
Being born and raised on a farm in South Carolina, Dick had an incredible work ethic that he passed on to his children. He was constantly trying to make the lives of those around him easier. Dick was also known for his generosity and always willing to help a neighbor or a friend. He enjoyed spending time at First Baptist Church in Hartwell, taking many trips with his wife, and experiencing life with his grandkids. He has left a lasting legacy and has done his part to leave the world a better place. 
    Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 20, at the First Baptist Church of Hartwell with Dr. Ben Brammer, Dr. Steve Albanese, and Dr. Hugh Kirby officiating. Burial was  in the Memorial Garden of Prayer.
