Venison-donation program comes to Hart County

  • Venison

A statewide program is coming to Hart County that will provide fresh meat to an area food charity.
Hart County’s program will be the 20th in the state through Georgia Hunters for the Hungry, an initiative of the Georgia Wildlife Federation. It has been providing meat to food pantries and charities in Georgia since 1993 when hunters donate venison from deer they harvest.
The Hart County program will aid the Hart County Cupboard, a local program that provides food on the second Tuesday of each month to folks in need.
Angela Whidby, who runs the cupboard, said she has seen first hand the need that exists locally. She works with local churches and other organizations to help people who have no food for their families. Having protein to provide will be a good addition for the 300-400 families she said are served each month.
