Hart County Charter System
The Hart County Charter System has been awarded the Award of Distinction for Excellent Financial Reporting by the Georgia Department of Audits and Accounts, recognizing the district's commitment to transparency, fiscal responsibility and the highest standards of financial reporting.
This award was established to recognize excellence in financial reporting and controls. To qualify, a school district must achieve an unmodified audit opinion — the strongest possible outcome — while maintaining no significant deficiencies or material weaknesses in internal controls, and full compliance with the state's Transparency in Government requirements.
“Earning the Award of Distinction for Excellent Financial Reporting is a reflection of our district’s commitment to stewardship, accountability and transparency,” said Superintendent Jennifer Carter. “Our community entrusts us with its resources, and we take that responsibility seriously. This recognition affirms the integrity of our financial practices and the dedication of our team to ensuring every dollar supports student success.”
The recognition goes beyond simply meeting state and federal accounting requirements. The Georgia Department of Audits and Accounts designed the award to encourage governmental organizations to exceed the minimum standards of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) — and to publicly acknowledge those that succeed.
Created in 2014 by the Georgia Department of Audits and Accounts, this award is presented annually to governmental organizations that submit high-quality financial statements and supporting documentation on time, earn an unmodified audit opinion, operate without significant deficiencies or material weaknesses and meet all Transparency in Government requirements.
The Georgia Department of Audits and Accounts provides independent, credible audit services that promote improvement and accountability across state and local government.
