Irene Winne Ackerman
Irene Lucille (Day) Winne Ackerman passed away in Jasper, GA on November 20, 2016, after an extended illness. Irene was born to the late Leslie and Agnes (Daniels) Day on May 20, 1923. She graduated from South New Berlin High School in 1941 and from Hartwick College School of Nursing in 1948 as a member of the Cadet Nurse Corps. She married Floyd W. Winne, Jr. in Cooperstown, N.Y. in 1949, where she worked as a registered nurse, and raised four children in their home in Fly Creek, N.Y. She and her husband Floyd retired to Hartwell in 1976. He died in 1989. She enjoyed camping, hosting family gatherings, and was a talented artist and prolific oil painter. She was a member of the Tugaloo Art Guild and the Art Guild of Hartwell.
Irene married Elmer Ackerman in Hartwell in 1992. She is survived by her children - David (Martha) Winne of Liverpool, N.Y.; Nancy Winne (Gary Phillips) of Raleigh, N.C.; Mark (Hope) Winne of Blue Ridge; daughter-in-law Suzy (David)Winne-White of Carnesville; step-children Nancy (Michael) Hurley of Hartwell; John (Diane)Ackerman of Florence, S.C.; Robert (Sue) Ackerman of Hartwell; and Gerald (Pamela) Ackerman of Bowman. She is also survived by her sister, Dorothy (Peter) Martin of Fly Creek, N.Y., and brother, Leslie Day, Jr. of Milford, N.Y. and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by husbands, Floyd Winne and Elmer Ackerman; son, Paul Winne; step-son, Donald Ackerman; sisters, Lois Bunn and Jeannette Holden; and brothers, Roger Day, Douglas Day, Gerald Day, and Leon Day.
The family will receive friends at the Faith Lutheran Church, 691 Benson St., Hartwell from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4. Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary with burial of her ashes to follow at Nancy Hart Memorial Park. Edith McCannon Eaves, 82, of Liberty Hill Road, Hartwell, passed away Saturday, November 26, 2016, at her home.
Born on June 30, 1934, in Danielsville, she was the daughter of the late Elmer McCannon and Stella Drake McCannon. Mrs. Eaves was a retired seamstress from Bellcraft Manufacturing and a member of the Oak Bower Baptist Church.
Survivors include her two daughters: Kathy Wood of Bowersville and Karen Stacks of Hartwell; one daughter-in-law, Alice Eaves of Athens; five grandchildren: Jennifer Coile (Kevin), Michael Wood (Brandy), Kevin Ginn (Amy), Ryan Eaves (Carrie), and Zachary Eaves (Liza); seven great-grandchildren: Cade Carter, Katelyn Carter, Jacob Coile, Daniel Wood, Jonathan Wood, Noah Eaves, and Shelby Eaves; and four sisters: Katherine Branyon of Danielsville, Mary Ruth Evans of Hartwell, Sue McCannon of Winterville and Elizabeth Seigler of Bowman. Mrs. Eaves was reunited in glory by her parents; her husband, Franklin Delano "Frank" Eaves; two sons: David Eaves and Daniel Eaves; and a son-in-law, Larry Wood.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with the Rev. Tommy Cleveland and Rev. John Silver officiating. Burial was in the Northview Cemetery.

Sandra June Skelton, 70, of Royston, passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2016, at the Comer Health and Rehabilitation Center in Comer.
Ms. Skelton was born in Royston, on June 13, 1946, daughter of Mrs. Betty Kay Skelton of Royston, and the late Fred Lester Skelton. She was a homemaker, loving mother and grandmother. Ms. Skelton was also a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Hartwell.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Marina and Michael Syrax of Avon, Conn., and Susan and Hal Hunsinger of Anderson, S.C.; grandchildren, Madeline and Maggie Hunsinger ; and brother and sister-in-law, Mitch and Amy Skelton of Royston.
Funeral mass for Ms. Skelton will be held at 9 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 1, in the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery.

Lorene W. McGukin
Lorene Wicker McGukin, 91, widow of Thomas McGukin, of 1032 Barnes Station Road, Iva, S.C., passed away Sunday, November 27, 2016, at her residence.
Born March 24, 1925, in Hartwell, she was the daughter of the late Joe and Fronie Allen Wicker. She was a homemaker and member of Ruhamah United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her daughter, Ann Kelley of Iva, S.C.; son, Jimmy McGukin (Thao) of Starr, S.C.; four grandchildren: Tommy, Kim, Nicole and Faith; three great-grandchildren: Korbyn, Rylan and Madelyn; sister, Betty Jo Todd of Anderson, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews. Lorene was preceded in death by a brother, James Wicker; sister, Lenora Wicker and other siblings.
Funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Ruhamah United Methodist Church with the Revs. George and Mary Brassard and Rev. Joe Durham officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Robert Edwin Taylor, 71, of Royston, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2016, at his home.
Mr. Taylor was born in Royston, on March 7, 1945, son of the late George Taylor and the late Florida Busha Taylor. He was a hardware salesman having worked at Ace Hardware.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Smith Taylor; sons, Josh Taylor (Laura) of Royston and Scott Taylor (Carla) of Evans; brother, Billy Joe Taylor of Sparta; sisters, Lunell Hearn of Hartwell and Ann Wade of Stone Mountain; and grandchildren, Payden Taylor and Cohen Taylor.
Funeral services were held at Royston Church of God at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, with the Rev. James Gunn and Rev. Eddie Wiggins officiating. Interment followed in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.pruittfhroyston.com.
