James Clifton "Jimmy" Seymour, 87, of Clearview Road, Hartwell, passed away Thursday, October 4, 2018, at his home.
Born on January 7, 1931 in Royston, he was the son of the late Ernest Leon Seymour and Dallas Loraine Martin Seymour. Mr. Seymour was a graduate of the University of Georgia, where he received his BS in Drafting and his Masters in Education, Magna Cum Laude, in DCT & Trade and Industry. He also owned and operated a farm, was formerly employed by the U.S. Postal Service, retired from the Hart County School System as the DCT coordinator and was a member of the Hart County Retired Teachers Association. Mr. Seymour was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hartwell and a U. S. Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his son, James Allen Seymour and Cathy of Athens; two daughters, Lynne S. Bowers and Jerry of Anderson, S.C., and Lori S. Davis and Don of Duluth; one brother, Charles Seymour of Jonesboro; one sister, Mary Kesler of Hartwell; six grandchildren: James Bowers, Jennifer Mihalic, Jonathan Seymour, Daniel Seymour, Dr. David Davis and Katelyn Davis and three great-grandchildren: Virginia Seymour, Kayleigh Mihalic and Patrick Mihalic also survive. Mr. Seymour was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty Hodgson Seymour; a brother, Edwin Seymour and a sister, Winona Scarboro.
Funeral services were held at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Mr. Don Davis and Mr. Allen Seymour officiating. Burial was in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Bowman.
