Hart Community Chorus preps for Holiday Singalong concert on Dec. 16
The Hart Community Chorus is practicing weekly in anticipation of its upcoming “Holiday Singalong,” which will take place at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church.
“We are doing carols and popular holiday songs in a community sing and we have several other selections the chorus will be doing,” said chorus director Maureen DeLoach.
The selections include an Appalachian Christmas song, “I Hear the Prophet Callin’” as well as traditional pieces like “Carol of the Bells, “Dona Nobis Pacem,” “O Beautiful Star of Bethlehem” and “Once in Royal David’s City.”
There will also be an old holiday folk song from Peter, Paul and Mary entitled “Light One Candle” and a piece called “Waiting” from Pepper Choplin’s Night of the Father’s Love as well as the new Christmas favorite “Mary Did You Know?”
According to DeLoach, several of the songs have instrumental accompaniment, including guitars, flute, tambourine and flugie trumpet. There is even foot stomping for one number as well as the piano accompaniment of Julia Mansfield.
After the music, there will be cocoa and homemade cookies in the social hall.
The chorus is comprised of 25 residents of Hartwell and the surrounding community and presents a minimum of three concerts a year.
The chorus is open to anyone who can sing three-and four-part harmony.
Practice is every Monday at 5 p.m. at The Art Center, except holidays. The chorus is currently practicing at St. Andrews Episcopal Church.
“We love for people to come and join us,” DeLoach said. “They don’t need to do anything special. Just come and sing with us. The important thing for us is that we all love music and we want to sing.”
