Hartwell’s annual Pre-Fourth celebration is scheduled to move forward, along with the Lake Hartwell Music Festival, pending an end to the statewide public health emergency.
City council members voted unanimously at Monday night’s regular meeting via teleconference to move forward with the Hartwell Service League’s Pre-Fourth event and the Lake Hartwell Music Festival as long as the public health state of emergency has come to an end and public gatherings are allowed again.
Despite the city moving forward with its plans, the Hart County Chamber of Commerce recently announced the annual Cars and Guitars Festival, originally set for May 23, is canceled along with the Pre-Fourth fireworks display scheduled for June 27. The chamber indicated on its Facebook page that Cars and Guitars could be rescheduled to a later date, but no decision has been made yet.
The annual Lake Hartwell Music Festival, previously held at Long Point Recreation Area, is now scheduled to be held on May 23 at Hartwell Lakeside, formerly Hart State Park, if Gov. Brian Kemp lifts restrictions on public gatherings. Councilman Tray Hicks said if they’re not able to hold the event on May 23, then it will be moved to a later date.
In other business:
• The council unanimously approved an annexation and zoning request for a planned five-acre multi-family development on Ridge Road. Townhomes are slated for the property as well as an adjacent property.
• An engineering contract for upgrades to the sewer plant was approved unanimously. City manager Jon Herschell said the $680,100 contract is comprehensive and includes concept design, construction administration, construction observation and engineering and design.
• A first reading of an amendment to the gas ordinance was delivered. Herschell said the amendment would consolidate all of the current rate categories into one category. He also said the change shouldn’t adversely affect customers’ rates.
• The memorandum of understanding with the University of Georgia’s Archway Partnership passed unanimously.
• The council unanimously approved expenditures for a lift station pump rebuild.
• The council unanimously approved a reimbursement from the Department of Natural Resources for reservations already made at Hartwell Lakeside.
