Raisel HM/RA embraced a group of first responders like he would his brothers on Sept. 12. He is not related to any of them and until Aug. 8, had never met them. Without them, though, HM/RA wouldn’t have even been there last week, a month after their first meeting, to shake their hands, hug their necks and express his undying gratitude.
“I’m here because God put these gentlemen in my life,” HM/RA said, sitting with Hart County EMTs Ronnie Thompson and Ronald Dutton and Hartwell firefighters Bobby Lewis and Jonathan Miller. “I’m thankful, grateful, that the creator put y’all there. I’m truly grateful to God.”
HM/RA said his name, pronounced like himra, comes from ancient Egypt and means God is great.
The emergency crew responded to a call about an unresponsive person in an attic on Aug. 8, in the heat of the day on what Thompson described as the hottest day of the year to that point.
