Hunter Renfrow, Luke Falk and Baker Mayfield — these are the names of the last three winners of the Burlsworth Trophy. The award is given to the most outstanding college football player who began his career as a walk-on.
Hart County alum and Georgia Tech center William Lay is in the running for the Burlsworth Award this year.
“I was very surprised. I thought it was a joke at first that one of my homeboys was playing on me at Tech,” Lay said. “I was just very surprised and very humbled by the fact of it.”
