Groups update shelter for pets

Pets have the power to heal and they are as much of a part of families as people are for many animal lovers.

That’s why Purina, RedRover and GreaterGood.org’s Rescue Rebuild shelter renovation program recently partnered to renovate and provide more pet-friendly space for the Northeast Georgia Council on Domestic Violence’s regional shelter.

The eight-bed shelter, and two-bedroom annex, provides help as a stepping stone for victims of domestic violence to get back on their feet. Dr. Katherine Reusing, NEGACDV executive director, said the shelter housed about 520 adults last year, many of whom had pets also afflicted by domestic violence.
