Flu season is here and it’s a doozie, health officials say.
“We had an earlier start to the flu season and it has been very active this year,” Public Information Officer of the District 2 Public Health Office Dave Palmer said. “The level of activity that we saw in October and November was more than we typically see.”
According to the Georgia Department of Public Health, there have been 15 influenza-related deaths in Georgia as of Dec. 28, compared to only four deaths last year by the same time. In the latest reported week, Dec. 22-28, 12.2 percent of patient visits reported through the U.S. Outpatient Influenza-like Illness Surveillance Network were due to influenza-like illness. The percentage is above the regional baseline of 2.4 percent.
