Federal charges could be filed soon against currently suspended Hart County Comissioner R.C. Oglesby and his family members for their roles in an alleged racketeering scheme, authorities said.

Oglesby, who was released on $50,000 bond last week, agreed to be suspended from his commissioner duties as a condition of his bond. Commisison chairman Joey Dorsey said county attorney Walter Gordon is looking into how to proceed and what the next steps are under state law.

The GBI agent in charge of the case is scheduled to meet with a U.S. Attorney next week to present the case, local authorities said. Federal prosecutors will then decide whether or not to pursue the case further and press federal charges, Hartwell Police Department Asst. Chief Stan Sayer told The Hartwell Sun on Monday.
